How we transformed a problematic concrete floor into a floor system resistant to washing and chemical exposure.

Task
- — Provide decorative seamless flooring that organically fits into the historical context of the Kazan Kremlin.
- — Provide a safe and comfortable surface for large visitor flows, including children (approximate R-class R10–R11).
- — Take into account intensive use: spills of food and drinks, movement of furniture, frequent wet cleaning.
- — Minimize the risk of cracking and chipping over long-term operation.
- — Maintain a unified visual style of the floors across zones with different functions (café, restaurant, children's center).

Solution
- — Mosaic Linolit TERRAZZO terrazzo floors on a prepared concrete base were chosen as the system.
- — The substrate was cleaned, levelled and reinforced in high-load areas with adhesion control.
- — Decorative elements in the floor pattern (ornaments and large colour inserts) were developed, referencing Tatar ornamentation and the overall identity of the complex.
- — The flooring was installed zone by zone, taking into account different levels of traffic and cleaning regimes (food court area, children's center, circulation corridors).
- — After curing, multistage grinding and polishing were carried out and a protective coating was applied, making daily cleaning easier and reducing the risk of staining.

Result
- — A continuous decorative floor covering was obtained that emphasizes the status of the site and works as part of the architectural solution of the interiors.
- — The floors withstand a constant flow of tourists, organized groups and families with children without a noticeable loss of appearance.
- — Thanks to a smooth but non-slip surface, comfort and safety of movement for visitors and staff have been improved.
- — The terrazzo flooring makes it easy to maintain cleanliness even under high load in food areas and the children's center.
