How we transformed a problematic concrete floor into a floor system resistant to washing and chemical exposure.

Task
- — Provide a decorative yet wear-resistant coating for the domestic departures area with intensive passenger flows.
- — Ensure comfortable and safe movement of people with luggage (approximate slip-resistance class R11–R12).
- — Minimize the number of joints where dirt and moisture can accumulate.
- — Ensure resistance to frequent wet cleaning, including with the use of cleaning chemicals.
- — Integrate the floor into the architectural concept of the terminal and the existing wayfinding system.

Solution
- — Decorative mosaic terrazzo floors based on Linolit TERRAZZO on a prepared concrete substrate were chosen as the system.
- — The base was levelled and prepared with strength and adhesion control, and movement joints were laid out.
- — The flooring pattern was created in a calm, neutral palette so as not to conflict with signage and furniture while visually “holding” the space.
- — After the coating gained strength, multi-stage grinding and polishing were performed, and a protective coating resistant to household chemicals and frequent cleaning was applied.
- — For areas near check-in counters, security screening, and entrances, an increased anti-slip effect was provided by selecting the aggregate size and final finish.

Result
- — A seamless decorative coating without visually noticeable joints has been obtained, convenient for moving passengers with luggage and trolleys.
- — The floors withstand high foot traffic and regular wet cleaning without visible loss of appearance.
- — The surface remains safe even when moisture and de-icing agents are tracked in from outside.
- — Terrazzo floors support the modern look of the terminal and do not require complex maintenance from the operations team.
